BS8102 - Code of Practice for Protection of Structures Below Ground Against Water

BS 8102 is not a compulsory document but compliance with it allows:-
..a more successful outcome to any basement waterproofing project. compliance with the Building Regulations.
Understanding the principles of BS8102 enables the customer to evaluate different proposals and therefore to make an informed decision.

BS8102 Forms of Construction
Three Categories of Structure and Waterproofing are defined:-
  • Type A Tanked Protection
  • Type B Integrally Waterproof
  • Type C Drained Cavity Protection

BS8102 - Environmental Grades
BS8102 defines four grades of internal environment . . .
  • Grade 1 - Car Parking
  • Grade 2 - Low Grade Storage
  • Grade 3 - Habitable
  • Grade 4 - Special Storage (archives)

BS8102 - Points to Consider (Paragraph 3.3- Degree of Water-tightness)

BS8102 - Acknowledges that wherever possible, hydrostatic pressure should be removed or reduced by the appropriate installation of drainage systems. TYPE C CAVITY DRAINAGE
